About Us

Rabren General Contractors is one of the largest privately held general contractors in the state of Alabama with the goal of being the best provider of construction services in the southeastern United States. Our mission is to meet or surpass the expectations of our clients and employees, and create an environment that nurtures excellent character.

Our Story

Rabren General Contractors, located in Auburn, Alabama was started by Mike and Travis Rabren in 2000 as a small General Contractor. In 2003, Matt Rabren, joined the ownership ranks of the company. These three men shared a common vision and desire to build a construction company with the same principles that they were taught growing up:

“Treat everyone as you would want to be treated, work hard, be honest, be fair, and get the job done right.”

Based on those principles, and through a result driven mentality and exceptional leadership, Rabren has developed from a small General Contractor into one of the most reputable multi-service general contractors in the state of Alabama with experience in all sectors of the industry, including: commercial, healthcare, retail and mixed-use, hospitality, governmental, student and multi-family housing, and more. In 2016, Business Alabama listed Rabren General Contractors as the 6th largest contractor in the state of Alabama. With this growth, Rabren is now included in the ENR (Engineering News Record) Southeast survey for top contractors.

Voted “Large General Contractor of the Year” by Alabama Subcontractors Association, Rabren is committed to building strong relationships and is more than prepared to take on tomorrow’s world of construction, no matter the job. Today the tenets of their heritage are evident in the various communities in which they build.

Moving forward, Rabren aims to not only expand geographically into the southeastern United States, but into to new markets as well. Our Community

While Rabren General Contractors strives to be the best provider of construction services to their clients and employees, Rabren also emphasizes the importance of giving back to the local community. With that, Rabren wants to give back to businesses and organizations that line up and illustrate values similar to those that Rabren holds as well. Some of these organizations include: Women’s Hope, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and the Travis L. Rabren Endowed Scholarship – the partnership between Auburn University and Auburn High School.

The Travis L. Rabren Foundation was created in memory of one of our founders, Travis Rabren, who battled cancer before he lost his life in 2008. Travis was known for his leadership, faith, outstanding character, and his love for family, friends, and the community of Auburn. With the passion and love that Travis had for the local community as inspiration, the Board of Directors for the TLR Foundation, his family and Rabren General Contractors continues Travis’ passion for the Auburn community by endowing the Travis L. Rabren Scholarship.

    Matt Rabren

    President & Chief Executive Officer

    Matt joined the Rabren General Contractors (RGC) Team in March of 2003 and brings unique insight and expertise to his position as President & CEO of RGC. A graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Matt has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, allowing him to to meet and surpass the expectations of our clients and cultivate an environment that nurtures excellent character. Through Matt’s results driven mentality and exceptional leadership, RGC has developed from a small General Contractor into one of the most reputable multi-service General Contractors and one of the best companies to work for in the state of Alabama. Matt continues to do business and lead RGC with the same values the company was founded upon (“Treat everyone as you would want to be treated, be honest, be fair, and get the job done right”). In addition to his responsibilities at RGC, Matt also helps lead the Travis L. Rabren Foundation; founded in 2010 in memory of Travis Rabren (Matt’s brother and co-founder of RGC).  Inspired by the passion and love that Travis had for the Auburn community as an inspiration, the Travis L. Rabren Scholarship and the TLR Memorial Golf tournament was established. The proceeds from the TLR Foundation go directly to the Auburn community and other organizations that make a difference and illustrate the values that align to those that the TLR Foundation and RGC holds as well.  Matt and his wife Laura are proud parents of Jacob, Colson and Sarah and live in Auburn, Alabama.

    Drew Brown

    Vice President, Field Operations

    An Auburn University Graduate with a degree in Building Science, Drew has over 25 years in the construction industry. Drew joined the RGC Team in 2009 and serves as RGC’s VP of Field Operations and is responsible for the executive leadership and development of RGC’s Field Operations Division. With this role, Drew focuses on providing leadership to the Field Operations staff to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with RGC’s Best Practices and aligns resources in accordance with safety, budget, quality and schedule obligations and objectives. He began his professional career by working in the field as an Engineer and quickly moved his way up the ranks. His combination of field and office experience on unique and complex projects have enhanced his ability to lead and solve complex problems, and inspiring those working with him to do the same. Drew and his wife Sarah are proud parents of Morgan, Griffin and Alana, and live in Auburn, Alabama.

    Stephen Green

    Vice President, Commercial & Healthcare

    Joining the RGC Team in 2016, Stephen Green has over 30 years experience in the construction industry, with many of those years in Healthcare construction. Stephen joined the RGC Team in 2016 and brings his detail-oriented leadership to RGC’s Best Practices and multiple project teams; inspiring them to deliver nothing short of the best to RGC’s clients. As Vice President of Commercial & Healthcare, Stephen provides leadership to RGC’s Healthcare and Commercial Operations Divisions by aligning resources and projects in accordance with project management, budget and financial objectives. Alongside, Stephen leads the development and implementation of company-wide Best Practices, oversees the company’s Marketing and Public Relations efforts, engages in business development strategy and oversees RGC’s Birmingham Office. Stephen and Leigh are proud parents of Davis and Caroline, and live in Auburn, Alabama.

    Ray Harrelson

    Vice President, Procurement Bid Projects

    As Vice President of Procurement Bid Projects, Ray leads RGC’s Estimating/Procurement Division. Within his role, Ray focuses on providing oversight to the Estimating/Procurement staff to align resources in accordance with RGC’s business development and preparing clear, complete and competitive conceptual estimates, general conditions, and hard bids. With over 30 years in the industry and with a degree in Building Science and a minor in Business and Computer Science from Auburn University, Ray aligns the Estimating/Procurement Division to make it possible for Project Teams to begin with their best foot forward.  Starting his career at RGC in 2006, the experiences Ray has gained in Project Management and Preconstruction has given him the tools to deliver the best pricing and Preconstruction services to our clients. Ray and his wife Nancy are proud parents of Beth and Will, and live in Auburn, Alabama.

    Jon Rabren

    Vice President, Commercial

    At RGC since its inception in 2000, and with nearly 20 years of experience in the construction industry,  Jon has taken those experiences into his current role to help inform his day-to-day decisions leading multiple project teams. In his current role, Jon is responsible for executive leadership, development and success of RGC’s Commercial Operations and Shop & Equipment Divisions.  As VP of Commercial, Jon focuses on leading and supporting Commercial Operations Teams to ensure projects are managed in accordance with Owner requirements and RGC project management, budget, finance and professional standards, and ensures that RGC S&E is operating in accordance with RGC standards of safety, quality, timeliness, budget, finance and professionalism. An Auburn University Graduate with a degree in Building Science, Jon has worked in a variety of roles ranging from Superintendent to Project Manager in his career. He is able to form solutions that incorporate input from varying perspectives, making him a very effective leader. Jon and his wife Torie are proud parents of Tyler, Olivia and Cade, and live in Auburn, Alabama.

    Mike Scarborough

    Vice President, Procurement Negotiated Projects

    Mike joined the RGC Team in 2018 and serves as Vice President of Procurement Negotiated Projects. Within this role, Mike leads the Estimating/Procurement Division to align resources with RGC’s business development efforts and prepares conceptual estimates, general conditions, and negotiated proposals. Alongside, Mike is actively engaged with RGC’s business development efforts and builds and implements Best Practices for the Estimating/Procurement Division and focuses on implementing target value design methods to ensure all project goals are met with respect to budget, schedule, and constructability. An Auburn University Graduate with a degree in Building Science, Mike  has a steady 23 years of experience in the construction industry with 9 years in Operations and 13 years in Preconstruction; giving him valuable insight into how decisions made during the Preconstruction process can benefit the work in the field.  Mike has focused the last 10 years on work in the Healthcare industry, working with many of the most prominent Healthcare systems in the country. Mike is a LEED AP and ASHE Certified with extensive ADPH, ACHA, and TDH experience. Mike and his wife Julie are proud parents of Will and Sam and live in Trussville, Alabama

    Jay Thomason

    Chief Financial Officer

    Throughout Jay’s 30 years of experience in banking and corporate finance, 8 of which have been with Rabren in the construction industry, Jay’s experience and knowledge has allowed him to lead the Accounting team with ideas that come from a variety of industries, bringing the best lessons learned from the finance world to Rabren General Contractors. As CFO of RGC, Jay leads the Finance and Accounting Department by building and implementing Best Practices, directs the fiscal functions of the company, and builds productive internal and external relationships.  An Auburn University Graduate with a degree in Finance, Jay’s leadership helps to keep Rabren on top of ways that we can best utilize our resources. Jay also assists with the implementation of new technologies that are used company-wide, including the implementation of software that brings together project management with accounting (Procore), to create seamless results. Jay and his wife Sarah are proud parents of Conner, Carol Ann and Jay Andrew, and live in Auburn, Alabama.
